The Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux de l’Estrie – Centre hospitalier universitaire de Sherbrooke (CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS), affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke, is currently seeking to fill the position of Scientific Director of the Research Centre on Aging (CDRV).

Research Centre on Aging
Unique for its intersectorality and its work in the community, the CDRV is one of 17 thematic research centres getting financial support from le Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) and a research institute affiliated with the Université de Sherbrooke. It is a major player in the development of knowledge at the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS and the Quebec Health and Social Services network. Its operating grant has just been renewed until 2024, following the evaluation of the CDRV’s Strategic Development Plan described as exceptional by the FRQS.

The mission of the Research Centre on Aging is to produce and integrate knowledge on the processes supporting healthy aging, and facilitate the adaptation of the society to this complex challenge. The CDRC provides researchers, students, professionals and human resources with an environment much sought-after for the high quality of its research on aging that is oriented towards the community and carried out in a holistic, interdisciplinary, and intersectoral perspective. Founded 30 years ago, it brings together more than 70 researchers in aging, from all faculties within the Université de Sherbrooke, supplemented by close to 170 students and around a hundred research professionals. Research activities aim to keep the elderly active and healthy, and fall into two interdisciplinary and interconnected axes: Geroscience and Autonomisation.

The CDRV provides and makes available different platforms to its members, such as:

  • A recruitment platform comprised actually of more than 2,500 potential participants in research projects;
  • A Clinical and Biopharmaceutical Research Unit collaborating with several privately held companies;
  • A laboratory of innovations by and for seniors, supporting the participation of aging people in the various stages of research.

Its positioning within the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS in the achievement of its mission is strategic, since it provides the Research Center with an access to a diversity of clienteles and settings both in urban areas and rural settings, and covers health care from the first-, second-, third-, and fourth line services. In addition to the CDRV, the CIUSSS de l’Estrie – CHUS is also home to the Centre de recherche du CHUS (CRCHUS) and the Institut universitaire de première ligne en santé et services sociaux (IUPLSSS). This proximity is unique in Québec and encourages inter-center cooperation promoted by the FRQS. The CDRV is also particularly well positioned at the Université de Sherbrooke, given that the University chose to focus on the aging of the population as one of its six unifying themes in research during its recent strategic planning (2018-2022). The CDRV thus plays a central role in promoting scientific life in this unifying theme.

Lastly, it should be noted that the CDRV is located in the picturesque Eastern Townships, one of the most beautiful parts of Québec, providing exceptional quality of life to those who chose to live there.
